Augmented reality, virtual reality, 360° video, and other immersive technologies
have the power to transform research, teaching, and learning at Penn State.

Thinking Within 2020 (Postponed)

Immersive technologies are making our lives better.

The Center for Immersive Experiences (CIE) provides cutting-edge immersive technologies, knowledge, and skills to the Penn State community with the goal to create leadership in immersive experiences by advancing the underlying science and integrating it into the academic spectrum through research, education, and outreach.

Faculty, students, and staff will be able to visit the CIE lab space and access research, equipment, and content by walk-in or appointment. Located in Pattee Library, the Center’s staff will be available for xR demonstrations that will allow visitors to explore the technology’s capabilities. The CIE is also designed and built to support classroom-scale interactions. Contact the Center’s staff for more information.

Whether it’s related to a faculty member’s individual discipline or the scholarship of teaching and learning, the CIE is a space where research related to xR can be conducted. CIE leadership is available for consultation. The Penn State community is welcomed to explore and experiment with technology at their leisure during operating hours.

The Center for Immersive Experiences (CIE) at Penn State offers grants to support transdisciplinary research, diverse educational activities, and high-profile outreach efforts.

CIE both curates, supports, and designs courses related to xR at Penn State. The Center’s staff will work with instructors to integrate immersive technology that best supports and enhances the classroom experience.
